St Mary the Virgin, Astley
A village church at the centre of the village. There has been a church here since 1086 at least, probably earlier. This church is open for prayer and contemplation.

Church interior at Astley
I am often deeply saddened when I pop into a church. They used to be alive and a traditional hub of the village, people attended and worshipped and socialised. Now I expect there are a few elderly and aged (female) attendees and the place feels more like a museum than a church. I read a few wall plaques, all of ancient dates and commemorating past vicars etc and I felt even sadder. A way of life is vanishing, or in reality has already vanished. What has filled the void? Nothing. In ten years time what will become of all these countless churches? And graveyards?
