The Boot Inn, Shipton Bellinger
The Boot, the village inn, used to be a mail staging-post on the daily Mail-Coach run from Marlborough to Salisbury in the early 19th century. The pub is on the High Street, and to reach it you have to cross a small bridge over a winter borne.

Sign for the Boot Inn, Shipton Bellinger
These signs often portray the long military boot worn by the Duke of Wellington, not the modern waterproof wellington but one which covered the front and was cut away behind. The one depicted here shows a fine boot with a spur.
