Just arrived in February 1953 from the Bagnall Works at Stafford is No. 8432, destined to last only until July 1959!

Swindon Works: diminutive 0-6-0 saddle-tank in scrapping-shed
With the much larger remains of a 'Star' 4-6-0 behind, ex-Burry Port & Gwendraeth Valley Railway No. 2194 'Kidwelly' is also being scrapped. It was built by the Avonside Engine Co. in 5/1903 and after the usual reboilering etc. by the GWR had survived until 2/53.

Swindon Works: a '1400' class 0-4-2T freshly repaired
No. 1445 was built as No. 4845 in 4/35 as a standard auto-fitted '4800' class 0-4-2T, renumbered in 11/46 and survived until 9/64.

Railway workshops, Swindon, 1966
Blurred because of being seen from a passing train, the turntable in the foreground is about the only element in this photo that has survived the intervening years (see also Image), but the structures to the rear may be of more interest; a large car park now covers this area.
