Ripley Road
This photograph was originally taken years ago, as part of a series to illustrate parking problems in this part of the town. But it still has interest because is shows some of the many terraced houses to be found in this part of Swindon. Today this area still remains a highly desirable place to live. At the end of the street can be glimpsed a garage building. This was the premises of Dellers Garage, a long established family run firm. Today they still exist, but have moved to another part of the town. Image

Ripley Road
Tucked away in a backwater of Old Town is this popular road, displaying both the terraced houses frequently found in this part of Swindon, together with an assortment of cars of the early 1980's. At the end of the road is Dellers Garage. Since the photo was taken, they have moved elsewhere. Image New housing on the garage site, photographed in November 2009:- Image

New housing, Bradford Road
In recent years there has been a lot of new residential building in the Old Town area of Swindon. This is another example. Part of the land it has been built on, was used as a car park for customers of FADS, a paint & wallpaper shop, which was around the corner in Devizes Road.

The Hop Inn
Pub at 8 Devizes Road dating from 1847, when named The Britannia. It was renamed The Fountain in around 1870. With various subsequent names, latterly The Pig on the Hill, it became The Hop Inn in 2019.
