Potton: smallholdings on Sutton Road
These smallholdings were originally part of the Land Settlement Association Potton Estate. In the 1930s the Land Settlement Association provided cottages and five-acre smallholdings for unemployed workers and their families, especially people from the North East and Wales, in villages in England (and one in Wales). The LSA was wound up in 1983 and the smallholdings sold. At Potton 30 holdings were created on 284 acres of land given by Sir Malcolm Stewart of Sandy Lodge, Chairman of the London Brick Company. Development started in March 1935.
