Station Road, Tempsford
The road has a very varied mixture of buildings, both modern and ancient. The thatched cottage on the right, named Pheasant Cottage, appropriately features an ornamental straw pheasant on its ridge. Old country beliefs were that such ornaments would keep away witches.

Not long for this world
This small barn stands alongside Station Road in Tempsford. Both roof and walls are in a precarious state, and without restoration, the building will surely collapse before long.

Disused barn
The barn is of the type used for the storage of baled straw, but both barn and the straw elevator that it houses have been disused for some years. The location is alongside Station Road in Tempsford.

Play area alongside Station Road
This rural village no longer has a school, pub or shop, but there is a well equipped play area which is largely ignored by the local children.

Estate houses, Station Road
Large solid houses in this style are dotted around the village. They were built in the latter half of the 19th century to house workers of the Tempsford estate, then owned by the Stewart family. This semi-detached pair bear the date 1876. (See detail - Image]).

Tempsford Estate house - detail
There are many houses scattered around the village which were built to house workers of the Tempsford estate. They all bear the Stuart family crest of a demi lion and motto 'Nobilis Ira' (Noble in Anger). The date here is 1876. Whole building: Image

There are examples of houses from many different periods in this rural linear village. A few date back to the 17th century, and there are many examples from different periods in the 20th century. The semi-detached houses here look typical of the 1960s.
