The New Inn, Squirrels Heath Lane
I've seen this before, a pub called The New Inn is actually the oldest building in the neighbourhood.
Now completely at odds with its surroundings, The New Inn is still in business on Squirrels Heath Lane, a road name that also sounds like it was here long before tower blocks were invented.

Of signalling interest, because as well as regular signal L431 there is also a SPAD (Signal Passed At Danger) indicator for L431 beyond with a blue backboard. Normally unlit, it would display three reds, two of which flash, if L431 is passed at danger. Signal L431 also has shunt and banner displays for admittance to the sidings ahead.

The Eastern Counties Railway opened on 1st July 1840 through here. It became the Great Eastern Main Line in 1843 when the line was extended towards Colchester. Gidea Park station was opened much later as Squirrels Heath & Gidea Park on 1st December 1910 by the Great Eastern Railway on the company's main line from London Liverpool Street. At the end of 1913 the name was switched to Gidea Park & Squirrels Heath. Two additional tracks which are normally used by fast services were provided in 1934 by the London & North Eastern Railway. On 20th February 1969 the station became simply Gidea Park.
Services are now operated by TFL Rail prior to the Elizabeth Line taking over in 2018. In this photograph a train bound for Ipswich races through on the down fast line.
