Friar Street, looking east
The snow seemed to particularly affect Northern Hampshire and Berkshire on this evening. Friar Street, Reading's second main thoroughfare, is normally packed with buses and pedestrians in the evening peak period. But gridlock elsewhere meant the buses were absent and people were using the street as a pedestrian area. But there weren't that many people around either; the shops four days before Christmas were virtually empty.

Oakford Social Club garden, Reading
The rear 'garden' of the Oakford Social Club (which despite its name is actually a pub), in Reading town centre. Once upon a time this was the garden of the ICL Social Club (a real club, that), although the building to the left has extended over part of the original garden site. Even earlier than that, it was the back yard of Reading County Borough Education Office. Photograph taken from a fourth floor bedroom of the adjacent Malmaison hotel.

One of the entrances
This is one of two entrances to the old post office on Friar Street Reading, there is a second the same on the other end of the building. The middle entrance does not look so grand.
