Arms and Motto, District Bank
The coat of arms of the District Bank bearing the Latin motto DECUS PRUDENTIÆ MERCES, meaning "honour is the reward of prudence."On the street-facing facade of the fish and chip shop on Station Road (Image]). The Manchester and Liverpool District Bank was formed in 1829 and it became one of the leading provincial joint stock banks; its name was shortened to District Bank in 1924. The Bank was acquired by the National Provincial Bank in 1962 but kept its identity until the latter’s merger with Westminster Bank in 1968.

Former District Bank on Station Road
The grand looking building which houses "Fish Loves Chips" at Hesketh Bank, carries a coat of arms with the motto "Decus Prudentiæ Merces", meaning "honour is the reward of prudence" (see Image]). This was the motto of the District Bank which merged with the National Westminster (later NatWest) Bank in the late 1960s.
