St Michael's Parish Church
St Michael's Church, in the village of St Michael's on Wyre, is a typical late Mediæval church and has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. According to local tradition, a church was built at this crossing of the River Wyre ca 640AD at the time of Paulinus the missionary and Archbishop of York. Nothing remains from that time but the Domesday Book of 1086 lists three churches in the area; one of which, Michelschere, was probably St Michael's. There has certainly been a church on the site from at least the 13th century, elements of which remain in the current building. The present church was possibly built in the 15th century and alterations were made in the 17th century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Michael's_Church,_St_Michael's_on_Wyre#cite_note-Cheetham5-1 Wikipedia
