Shanklin Telephone Exchange (4)
This photo shows the Edward VIII cipher and the year 1936 above the entrance of this TE. Edward VIII was the uncrowned king of the United Kingdom who reigned from January to December 1936. Quite a few postboxes had this cipher on them, but as far as I am aware, Newport (IOW), SZ 4989 https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2823323 refers, and Shanklin were the only TEs on the Isle of Wight which had that same cipher inscribed above their entrances.

Shanklin Telephone Exchange (1)
Located at 6 Collingwood Road, this TE dates from 1936 and has the code SDSHNKL. It provides telephone and broadband services to 5,139 residential and 503 non-residential premises in Shanklin plus Apse Heath, Luccombe, Newchurch, Whiteley Bank and Winford nearby. The wording "TELEPHONE EXCHANGE" can be seen between the upper and lower windows, although one could be forgiven that this building was a smart detached house surrounded by trees instead of a TE.

Shanklin Telephone Exchange (2)
This photo shows a side view of this TE with the BT warning notices just visible on the front wall, whilst the entrance door and ventilation louvres can be seen to the left of the car. A tree overshadows the front of this TE which has (01983) 86xxxx numbers, the (01983) referring to the Isle of Wight group of sixteen TEs. .

Shanklin Telephone Exchange (3)
This photo shows the entrance door of this TE which has a notice to indicated that this S5 Site is alarmed, and woe betide anyone who tries to break into it. The combination entry lock and light can be seen to the right hand side of the door, whilst a letter box can just be seen to the right of the photo, although that is probably now sealed up and letters cannot be pushed through it. However, it is unlikely that this TE would receive any post these days. Above the door is the Edward VIII cipher and the year 1936. The postcode of this TE is PO37 7LN.
