Path round Lodge Hill
A former track which has deteriorated, like many, into a footpath only. There are views across to Stoodley Pike.

Track at Height Gate, Erringden
The track to the north from Height gate, which leads to the path over Edge End Moor, cannot be seen until you reach this corner. Four footpaths radiate from the point beyond the gate.

Height Gate, Erringden
The name suggests that at one time the gate onto the common pasture was just beyond this farm.

Old delfs on Lodge Hill, Erringden
What were they digging for? No point in coming up here for millstone grit, which is easily obtainable lower down. Was there a seam of coal?

Stile between Lodge Hill and Edge End Moor, Erringden
Despite the name, Edge End Moor is not 'access land'. It is one enormous field of grass, with patches of rushes, supporting a flock of sheep. The stile is on the public footpath from Height Gate to Rough Head.

Green lane from Height Gate to Strait Hey, Erringden
This passes through the ancient Sowerby Ramble, a narrow strip of land surrounding the medieval hunting park that eventually became the township of Erringden. There are two roughly parallel township boundaries on the 1850 map, and between them the name 'Ramble Wood'. The gatepost on the right has a carving that I could not decypher.

Edge End Moor
Parked near SD 96472 24393 then took bridleway NNE towards Edge End Moor, Lower Rough Head Farm, Stoodley Pike and finally on to Blake Moor to bag the trig point which is surrounded by reservoirs and catchment drain that can be tricky to cross.
