The former Electricity Works in Duke Street
The building seen in the foreground housed the offices and was designed in 1913 by E Boardman architects for the Norwich Electric Light Company > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5824700. In 1892 they had already converted the adjacent old Duke’s Palace Ironworks > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5824715 to a site where coal-fired boilers generated electricity that, by 1913, lit over 1750 street lamps around the city. Offices (former) of the Norwich Electric Light Company
This building housed the offices of the Norwich Electric Light Company and was designed in 1913 by E Boardman architects. It has the Norwich City coat of arms above its door. In 1892 E Boardman and Son had already converted the adjacent Duke’s Palace Ironworks > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5824715 to a site where coal-fired boilers generated electricity that, by 1913, lit over 1750 street lamps around the city.
