Plaque to Xylophone Man - Frank Robinson
I think it would be fair to say that Frank was not the best xylophonist ever, but his enthusiasm and spirit was something everyone in Nottingham could identify with. The plaque shows how much he had become a part of Nottingham life.

Xylophone Man tribute plaque, Lister Gate
A tribute to Frank Robinson, best known as the 'Xylophone Man', who used to busk in this spot for decades playing a xylophone and became a beloved local figure.

Shoppers in Lister Gate
The dome of the Council House shows above the Marks & Spencer store in the centre of the picture. Now pedestrianised, this was once the main bus and trolleybus route south from the city centre to Trent Bridge.

Marks and Spencer Building, Lister Gate
See also Image A triumph of art-deco architecture. It was built in 1936-37 and designed by the in-house architects of FW Woolworth. They obviously pulled-out all the stops to produce a flagship town centre shop. Changed hands from Woolworths I think about 15 years ago. Grade II listed in 1995, which might date the change over if Woolworth were selling at the time and there were fears that it might get redeveloped. Detail of 22-26 Lister Gate, Nottingham
Built for Woolworth's, 1937, by its own Construction Department. Plenty of Art Deco or Moderne details, and some oddball ones.
