35 Warser Gate, Nottingham
Grander than the street's other former warehouses and, Pevsner remarks, "a puzzle". Apparently built in 1879 for Rogers & Black and one of the country's earliest steel-framed warehouses (and with concrete floors), but a surviving plan by John H. Kent is based on brick. The rich Baroque corner entrance scarcely seems to relate to the rest of the structure. Grade II listed. Now flatted offices I think.

The Old Angel as it used to be
Not long after this picture was taken, this long-established Lace Market pub was refurbished and renamed - see Image] (August 2016). The photograph was taken against the light from shadowed Warser Gate on a fine September morning. (The picture on the pub wall is of the novelist Alan Sillitoe, one of several Nottingham heroes being celebrated - see Image] and Image)
