Improvised queuing system, ASDA, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne
As a (hopefully) short term measure during the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the UK in the first part of 2020 part of the car park beside the large ASDA supermarket has been used to set up a queuing system for people to wait to enter the supermarket. The painted yellow lines are two metres apart, indicating the distance which government advice suggested provided sufficient room to suitably reduce the risk of catching the infection from someone close by. Upturned trolleys have been used to separate the rows of queuing people waiting to enter the shop. Queuing outside was deemed necessary as shops were instructed to limit the number of people in their stores to reduce crowding and therefore the risk of infection from fellow shoppers and staff.

Marks and Spencer Foodhall, Hollywood Avenue, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne
A branch of the Marks and Spencer business located at the junction of Hollywood Avenue and High Street in Gosforth. The well spaced queue of people waiting along the pavement is due to the retailer limiting the number of people of entering shops to promote 'social distancing' during the COVID-19 pandemic which affected the UK from the spring of 2020.
