St Marcella's Church, Eglwys Wen
The church stands in rural surroundings about a mile east of the lower end of Vale Street, Denbigh. Despite being so far from the town, it is in fact the original parish church of Denbigh.
The church is mentioned in the Norwich Taxation of 1254, but only the tower, an Early English doorway and the "Priest's Door" still remain of the early building. The rest of the church was built in the late sixteenth century.

St Marcella's Church, Denbigh
Marchell the Virgin is said to have a hermitage here in the 7th century, by a holy well. The double-naved church was rebuilt in the 15th century. It is the parish church of Denbigh although it stands about a mile from Denbigh town centre.

St Marcella's church, Denbigh - Myddelton Brass
This monumental brass (rare in Wales) portrays Richard Myddelton (†1575), his wife and their sixteen children. There are seven fashionably dressed daughters, and nine sons, one of whom Sir Thomas Myddelton founded the Chirk Castle dynasty and became Lord Mayor of London. Another, Sir Hugh, became a goldsmith-entrepeneur and went on to transform London's water supply. Other sons were Robert and William, the former was MP for Weymouth in Dorset, and a Freeman of Denbigh, whilst William was a sea captain and a distinguished bard.
