YMCA building, Granby Street, Leicester
YMCA building with shops below in part. 1898-1901. By AE Sawday in collaboration with Draper and Tudor Walters, Listed Grade II.
The Listing describes it as being brick with Ketton stone dressings. In fact the non-brick elements appear to be terracotta, although the surface has been eroded and roughened by the inappropriate use of abrasive materials during cleaning in the latter part of the 20th century.

Station Area, LE2
The 20 storey "St George's Central" building (a.k.a. St George's Tower) on the St George's Way/Campbell Street corner site is the most prominent building to be seen at this end of East Street. The Whitbread giant has a Premier Inn located within the lower part of the skyscraper and the remainder of it is residential accommodation. The modern building on the right is part of Peat House, premises currently occupied by KPMG, and above the green-painted shop front on the left are buildings owned by the YMCA.

Corner entrance in green glazed faience with the remarkable shell-like structure supporting the bay windows above. The original shop fronts have survived with little alteration. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6051855 for location and more information.

St George's Elevation
I have submitted this as a supplementary. Having visited the Scottish Parliament earlier this year, I felt that the angles here reminded me of that far more elaborate structure.

St George and Elizabeth
No matter what your first impressions, I can't help thinking that there was actually some inspired design going on here. I can't find exactly when Elizabeth house was built or whether the intention was to complement the St George's Tower in any way...or is it just me!?
