On the roadside sign of this public house is a golden eagle on a cradle. The famous "Eagle and Child" from the Lathom coat of arms was adopted by the Stanley family after the marriage in 1385 of Isabella de Lathom to Thomas Stanley. The Lathom lands in Huyton, Roby and Knowsley then passed on to the Stanley family (later Earls of Derby). Huyton-with-Roby civic crest also displays the Eagle and Child. In 1866, the Stanley Arms was the venue for an athletics day held for staff of the London & North Western Railway Company who lived and worked in the Liverpool area.

Adjacent to the Stanley Arms pub on Roby Road is the partially hidden Anderton Terrace, a good example of attractive terraced cottages of the industrial revolution era.

A few cottages on the busy A5080 are all that survives of the ancient village of Roby, mentioned in the Domesday book

Picturesque Toll Bar Cottage still standing at the junction of Roby Road and Station Road and the last of Liverpool's toll-bar cottages. It was built in 1726 when toll collection in Roby began on this former Liverpool-Warrington turnpike (A5080)

This old boundary stone, once stood at the side of a country lane, the turnpike between Warrington and Liverpool. Now moved from its original position it still stands at the edge of the A5080 near the toll bar cottage.

Old fingerpost at the junction of Mill Lane and Hall Lane, dated 1892. Unfortunately, it has lost its arms which, no doubt, would have directed one to Cronton, Prescot and Warrington.

The engineering works can be seen, towards Huyton signal box, which will reinstate two sets of tracks which had been pulled up in the 1970s. This is to be completed for the electrification of the Liverpool to Wigan line, in 2014.

This lovely 19th century villa, originally called Yewtree,is on Roby Road and would have been built for a rich merchant requiring a country residence within easy reach of Liverpool. It became a hall of residence for students in the 20th century and is now a residential home.

Built c1840, this house with its elaborate cast iron work had two shops fronting it until the 1970's. Just next door are highly decorated cottages on Station Road and opposite, the original Toll Bar cottage.
