Tree-lined path
This track, now part of the Fife Coastal Path, follows the line of an old railway track that was used to bring limestone from quarries down to the limekilns on the coast in Charlestown.

Ivy-covered Trees
These trees, seen from the old railway bridge, are wreathed in the ivy which also covers the ground on the bank. Picturesque, but doomed!

Bridge at Lime Quarry
This substantial bridge carried the railway across the 'Day Level' which drains the mineworkings to the left. It's pretty awkward to photograph!

Shell Road
This leafy byway was once a major artery of the lime workings, where a railway brought lime from the quarries down to the kilns for burning.

Lime Kilns.
Built in the 1750s these kilns formed one of the largest lime producing complexes in Scotland supplying a third of national output.They ceased production in 1956.
