Victoria Road, Elland
This is taken from opposite the RC church, looking down into town. The house on the left is a strange mixture of neo-Tudor stone and timbered styles, late 19C or early 20C - I shall have to go back and see if the stone at the top of the two-storey bay window has a date on it. The pale building beyond it is the library, which will get its own photo next visit.

The telephone exchange, Elland
I had often wondered what this building is, with its odd tower, then I noticed that the gates have the words 'telephone exchange' on them. Also there is on the wall the royal cypher, EiiR, and the date 196 (4th figure missing).

Site of former terrace, Victoria Road, Elland
There would at one time have been a terrace of houses here on the south side of Victoria Road. At the time of this photo it was a small open space, used partly as a car park for neighbouring houses on John Street, and partly a wide grass verge with crocuses as seen here.
