Beverley Coronation Gardens
On North Bar Within, a small area of public park, constructed to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and completed in 1955. In 2005 on the gardens' 50th anniversary a sensory garden area was created. The rear part (western end) of the Coronation Garden remains a burial ground with all the original undisturbed graves.

Overgrown graves, Beverley
Graves in the area at the western end of the former graveyard, most of which is now the Coronation Gardens. Given that the rest of the site is well maintained, I guess that this area has been minimally tended as a wildlife area, rather than subject to genuine neglect. Burials here started in 1829. The cemetery was closed to new burials in 1869 except for those in existing plots. In 1955, St Mary parish transferred the North Bar Within burial ground to the council. which used the eastern portion of the burial ground to create a green space known as The Coronation Gardens to commemorate the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The church conveyed the land to the then Beverley Corporation in 1955 for use as a public open space. The Coronation Garden was created to commemorate the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.

North Bar Within, Beverley, Yorkshire
St Mary's Church burial ground, between Nos.51 and 65 North Bar Within, was in use between 1829 and 1869. In 1955 the church conveyed its land to the Beverley Corporation for use as a public open space, and was named Coronation Garden to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Abutting the western perimeter wall is what appears to be a religious relic (unidentified) or perhaps it is a memorial.
