Green at Latimer
Behind the pump is an obelisk of Aberdeen granite which is a memorial to local men who fell in the Boer War. Just behind this is a mound which is a memorial to the horse of a General who fought in the same war. The white building in the background dates from C16. Memorials at Latimer
The village of Latimer is tiny and built around its small green. On the green are two memorials relating to the Boer War. The larger is to those locals who died during the war and the smaller to "the horse ridden by General de Villebois Mareuil at the battle of Boshof, South Africa, 5th April 1900 in which the General was killed and the horse wounded". The horse was brought to England by Major General Lord Chesham KCB, and died on 5th February 1911".
