Shere
The village hall. I remember staying here on August Bank Holiday 1986, at the end of day 2 of the UCA 150 miles sponsored walk from Winchester to Canterbury.
We caught the remains of ex-hurricane Charley from mid-afternoon onwards. We had advanced warning when, at the Oval, Ian Botham was en route to possibly the fastest ever test century when the torrential rain arrived, causing the match to be abandoned. Most radios were not exactly small, in those days, and one of the walkers was carrying one for the duration of the walk. On weekdays, we listened to the Radio One Roadshow.
