Cup-and-ring-marked stone
This cup-and-ring-marked stone is not marked on the map, but it has been reported in the past (see the end-note). See Image for a closer look. The 1:25000 map does indicate some similar sites nearby: for example, there is a group of three marked stones not far from here: Image Not far to the north-east of that group, yet more stones are marked on the map (c.Image); however, there is little point in looking for them, since they have long since been covered over for protection.

Cup-and-ring markings
For a view of the stone in context, see Image In the present picture, there is a cup mark near the centre of the image. Some readers may be able to discern that it is surrounded by two rings, but, as noted at the Canmore link in the end-note, the markings are not particularly obvious unless illuminated at a shallow angle. A single cup mark can be seen near the right-hand edge of the image, a little higher up than the other one. Most of the rest of the surface of the stone is covered with turf; this should be left in place: it serves as a natural protection against weathering.

Cup-marked boulder
There are three stones in this area with cup-and-ring marks, as indicated on the 1:25000 map. The two more northerly stones are shown in Image; the present picture shows the other stone, the southernmost one of the group. Even though this is not a particularly close view, some cup marks are still plainly visible.

Cup markings in Auchnacraig Urban Park
This rock has (in the area shown in this image) three conspicuous cup marks: two are close together, just below the centre of the image, and another one is to their right. All three happened to have some small shards of green glass in them, making their position more evident. This group of rocks also bears a number of smaller cup marks, some of them with rings. For further information on the cup and ring markings at this site, see: Image For context, see Image; the boulder that is referred to there as "stone A" is the one shown in the present picture.
