Larkholme Grasslands - Fairview entrance
This sculpture, designed by Stephen Broadbent, is one of several which punctuate the walkway along the new Rossall Coastal Defence Scheme to the south of Fleetwood, Lancashire. The pieces symbolise Larkholme Grasslands, a Biological Heritage Site even before the floodwater channel was landscaped because of its wealth of marine species; this particular piece is at the entrance on Fairview (at Larkholme Parade).

Sea wall and promenade, Larkholme
The sea defences and promenade that protect Rossall and Fleetwood are to be reconstructed in the near future. About 2.3 km of the coastline will be involved, and proposed work will include the replacement of the revetments, seawall, promenade and rear wall, and includes works to the grassed lagoon area and floodwater channel, seen here on the right. The work is necessary to protect the area from the latest projected sea level rise of 1900mm by 2095. If no action was taken then it is predicted that the current defences could fail in 5-10 years.

Roundway, Larkholme
Like most of the land near the seashore here, Larkholme is flat and devoid of trees of any size. The soil is shallow and often underlain by a hard layer of clay, making drainage and cultivation challenging.
