Welcome to Fleetwood
This monument stands in the middle of the roundabout where the recently built Amounderness Way crosses Fleetwood Road. The plaque reads "Fisherman's Friend welcomes you to Fleetwood". Fisherman's Friend might be described as Fleetwood's answer to Blackpool Rock: it is a brand of mentholated cough lozenge ( http://blondesense.blogspot.com/2005/09/sucking-fishermens-friend-could-get.html ). There is no access to the centre of the monument and no explanation of the black thing in the middle but it may be a Victorian fountain moved here from some local park.

No Trains today
A view looking towards Fleetwood of the freight only line which has been "mothballed" for some time. The overbridge has been filled beneath where I stand so its unlikely any trains will pass under this bridge again.

Trains no more
The freight line shown has been shut now for a number of years and while most of the track is still intact it is very overgrown and hidden by vegetation. Will trains ever run here again? In the distance can be seen part of a chemical plant. This also provided traffic for the railway in years past.

Rusty rails
This shows how the bridge has been infilled and earthed up no doubt to support the bridge. Many very large heavy lorries use what was a small railway bridge.
