Sykehouse lock on the New Junction Canal
The path on the left forms a section of the Trans Pennine Trail it crosses the canal here to continue North on the opposite bank. The canal is an extremely straight section of The Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation.

Sykehouse lock gates are closed
The canal is an extremely straight section of The Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation. Bikers on the left have to wait for the swing bridge to open.

Harrier Hawk in Sykehouse Lock
This lock was being operated by a volunteer from the Canal and River Trust. The swing bridge in the centre of the lock is closed when the lock is being used by canal boats

Sykehouse Lock
There was a queue of boats for the lock, with Canal and River Trust staff in attendance. The lock wouldn't open, with a staff member advising it was a software error. National Cycle Network route 62 runs along the towpath beside New Junction Canal.
