Empties Through Darlington
Class 37, 37054, brings an empty train of freightliner container wagons through Darlington station. The photo is taken from a southbound passenger train. Behind the train is the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company factory which has since been demolished and replaced by a housing estate and Territorial Army centre. The company, which was responsible for building some well known local bridges including the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge, continues to manufacture bridges operating from premises on Yarm Road. Further afield, the company manufactured the Victoria Falls Bridge in Zimbabwe and was involved with Dorman Long in the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A full list of bridges the company have been associated with can be found on their website or wikipedia.
