Co-op building, Melbourne Market Place
Immediately recognisable as a Co-op development - the Co-op still occupies the building. Decorated in cream terracotta in classical style, the cartouches at mid-level include the DCS monogram of the Derbyshire Co-operative Society.

Melbourne Market Place
The range of dwellings seen here dates from the late 18th century. The set in brick with the arched windows (left of centre) were originally four dwellings, now 2. The tallest house was refronted in the early 19th century, possibly when those to the right were built. In front of them is the Market Cross, dating from 1889 by James Wright and erected to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The timber shelter around the cross was built to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. All the houses and the cross are Grade II listed.

The Old Bakehouse, Potter Street
Now simply a private house. Note the tall openings in the centre of the building with the hoist beam over, indicating where sacks of flour, etc., would have been hoisted into the upper storage floors.
