Midland Terrace, Westhouses
When a locomotive depot and sidings was constructed at Westhouses to service local collieries, Midland Terrace, consisting of 45 houses, was built to provide housing for the expanding workforce. The railway still runs behind the houses, although the sidings and depot no longer exist.

Class 20 locomotives at Tibshelf sidings
Toton based class 20s were the staple motive power for the coal trains that ran in the East Midlands coal field in the late 70s and early 80s. A number of these locomotives were out stabled and worked from the nearby depot at Westhouses. Here a pair have just brought a set of wagons into the sidings and they are about to return to Westhouses depot. Note the spoil heaps behind the locomotives. All the local deep mines closed and along with them went the trains and depot along with all the employment that the coal industry provided both internally and to external sources. The railwayline in the foreground is the Nottingham to Chesterfield line via Alfreton and Mansfield Parkway.
