Aggregate wharf, Greenhithe
This is "Johnson's Wharf", and was originally used to ship chalk to I. C. Johnson's cement plant at Gateshead, Tyneside. In 1873, Johnson established a cement plant at Greenhithe, on the south side of the railway line, and the wharf was used to bring in coal and ship out cement until the plant's closure in 1971. The disused rail track in the foreground was part of the track connecting the wharf to the plant. I. C. Johnson's successors now use the wharf to bring in aggregate.
