Woodlands Road, Binley Woods
Binley Woods was first developed with rather makeshift wooden bungalows in the inter-war years on what was then referred to as Binley Common, outside Binley village. The name Binley Woods was not adopted until the 1960s; the area is now an extensive estate, effectively a suburb of Coventry but politically within Rugby Borough. This is the southernmost point looking back along Woodlands Road towards Rugby Road as the snow of the previous week is gradually disappearing.

Binley Woods: Gates to the Back Field
Binley Woods were an ancient woodland that turned into a village in the twentieth century. The businessman John George Gray bought it in 1923 along with much of the Coombe Abbey estate. He felled the wood, sold the timber and then sold plots of land for building. A community gradually developed and chose the name Binley Woods in 1961. The parish council bought the 'Back Field' in 1980; it extended the recreation ground and provided a corridor of public land to Brandon Wood, which lies to the south and is owned by a charitable trust. See the history of Binley Woods at the parish council website https://www.binleywoods-pc.gov.uk/history .
