View towards Croydon TV transmitter
Looking across Ashburton Playing Fields. The tower is in fact at Upper Norwood. This viewpoint also gives views of the very similar Crystal Palace transmitter, further around to the right and actually at Crystal Palace.

Ashburton Playing Fields, Croydon, from the south
Photo taken from Woodmere Avenue, CR0 7PF (another was taken from Bywood Avenue - see TQ3567). On the skyline are the twin Crystal Palace TV antennae. It is said that King James I established public horse racing at Croydon, and well into the late Victorian age this was a race-course. It was then used as a golf course up to WWII.
