Croydon: George Street, without a tram in sight
The trams come along George Street so frequently that it is unusual to be able to photograph the street without them. Here are seen the frontage, (or rather side-frontage) of Allder's, and in the distance, the NLA tower, or 'Wedding Cake'.

Croydon: George Street
Looking east from the junction with High Street / North End. On the immediate left is Whitgift Hospital (almshouses), beyond which is Allder's Store - this goes right through into the Whitgift Centre and North End. The tram stop opposite Allder's is served by all three tram routes - 1 to Elmer's End, 2 to Beckenham Junction and 3 to Wimbledon.

In the foreground, a tram has stopped at the George Street stop, outside Allders. This location is surrounded by, mainly, Victorian buildings. On the distant skyline is the NLA Tower, dating from the late 1960's.

Croydon: George Street: The 'George'
This pub opened only in 1993, but apparently there was a 'George' almost on the same site between 1497 and 1781, and a George IV nearby from 1832 to 1959.

Image Receding from the camera, the car runs down the narrow George Street West, where it will pass the Whitgift Almshouses and then descend Crown Hill again. Altogether three circuits were made, and all went well. The Police seemed relieved that this new monster had not run amuck and taken the lives of innocent citizens.
