A bronze statue of Guglielmo Marconi, Father of Wireless, near the Civic Centre, in Marconi Plaza, Chelmsford. The sculptor was Stephen Hicklin who commented:
"I took the hand gesture which projects the lightning bolt which is really the idea of the transmission into the ether."

The base of the bronze statue of Guglielmo Marconi, Father of Wireless, near the Civic Centre, in Marconi Plaza, Chelmsford. The sculptor was Stephen Hicklin.
The base reads:
"Guglielmo Marconi 1874 - 1937
The Father of Wireless
The World's First
Transatlantic Transmission 1901"
Please note, Marconi never considered himself the "Inventor" of Wireless/Radio, as there were many others who contributed to its invention, which he acknowledged. However he took a scientific effect and turned it into useful wireless communications against all odds and is truly the "Father of Wireless".
