Aberdare Fire Station
Set back 40 metres from the south side of Cwmbach Road, part of the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service. The fire station has been on this site since 1967. In addition to the town of Aberdare, the station provides fire cover for neighbouring towns and villages (Abercwmboi, Cwmaman, Cwmbach, Cwmdare, Llwydcoed, Mountain Ash, Penrhiwceiber, Penywaun and Trecynon).

Sobell Leisure Centre, Aberdare
Located in The Ynys, SE of Aberdare railway station. Sobell Leisure Centre's facilities include a gym with modern fitness equipment and a wide range of fitness classes and activities led by expert instructors.
It has three pools (main, small and diving training) which are used by swimmers of all ages.
There are diving, swimming, lifesaving and canoeing clubs.

A4059 bypasses Aberdare town centre
Through traffic can use this route past Aberdare Bus Station to avoid town centre congestion.
The A4059 here uses the trackbed of a dismantled railway.
