Entrances, Beckenham Post Office
Beckenham Post Office opened in 1939, suffered war damaged soon after, and was repaired. It was designed by Frederick A. Llewellyn of the Office of Works (the government department responsible for design and construction of post office buildings); the building is a departure from the inter-war "Post Office Georgian" style. The influence of modern architecture on post office design at this time is also demonstrated at the post offices built at Penarth (architect Albert Myers) and Scunthorpe.

George VI cypher, Beckenham Post Office
Many inter-war year and some post-war post offices display the Royal cypher, as a relief stone: very helpful, of course, in the dating of buildings where there is no immediate documentary information. See also Image]
