Fosse Way or London Road West, Bath
The road leading away from the viewpoint is a stretch of an old Roman road, the Fosse Way, now called London Road West. Eveleigh Avenue heads uphill to a hotel and the new development in this image Image

London Road West
These terraced houses of Bath Stone are on the south side of the old Fosse Way. This is the last flat straight section before the old Roman road climbs out of the valley of the Avon at Batheaston on its way north to the midlands and eventually Lincoln.

Houses on the Fosse Way
This for many hundreds of years was the main route east out of the city of Bath. At this point the road is now known as London Road West. It was formerly the A4 but is now a minor road. The houses are lower than the road as they are on a steep slope above the River Avon. The houses are built of mellow yellow bath stone.
