This substantial and well-constructed bridge accommodating up and down boat traffic from the two towpaths was built by the London & North Western Railway for the Stour Valley line during Telford's improvements. The adjacent bridge over the original Birmingham Canal was taken away when the canal was filled in for railway sidings.
