Grade I Listed Building. Site of the medieval manor of Newport, held by the Mauduit Family. Present house built for clothier Edward Middlecot in 1722, then housed the agents for Longleat, followed by the Urban Council between 1955 and 1974. Also housed the public library between 1957 and 1982.
