The Bedern/Aldwark area within the city walls had become run down and untidy by the 1960's, so the area was cleared and good quality housing erected, whilst some of the older buildings were restored. Bedern Hall was the 14th century refectory for the Vicars Choral, and it was restored in 1978/80. Now used as a guildhall and meeting place.
