The lane would have been here first, but when the railway came along, on only a low embankment, the lane was taken under it rather than raising the railway higher or making a road bridge. Hence the warning about risk of flooding. The resulting height of 4.3m is adequate for most modern vehicles, including the double decker buses that sometimes ply the 91 route here.
