Agecroft is the newest of the Salford's cemeteries. It was opened (as Salford Northern Cemetery) in June, 1903 to accommodate additional new grave space due to the full utilisation of Weaste Cemetery. Built in 1903 in Perpendicular Gothic style and with a distinctive clock tower, this large disused mortuary chapel is situated near the main entrance to the cemetery. Closed and effectively abandoned in the 1980s, the chapel is listed as a heritage building at risk by the Victorian Society http://www.victoriansociety.org.uk/news/agecroft-cemetery-chapel-salford/ . For most of the year, the now derelict chapel is hidden by the trees when they are in leaf.
