The steep, western slope of Cefn Du displays a glorious colour, only seen properly in late winter as the light strengthens. The footpath shown on the map from Bronferiaeth to Chweffordd is close to impassible in places because long Bramble stems are knitted through the Bracken and Gorse has colonised the flat platform of the path which ascends gently as it runs half way up the steep slope from the Nant y Gareg-Ddu.
