When I photographed this I had no idea what it was. Thank you John Webb for spotting this on an episode of the BBC series 'Escape to the Country'. This is a memorial created to celebrate the Millennium, it is the work of artist, Anita Reardon. Presumably this highlights the history of the village, clearly visible is a pair of hand sheers for clipping sheep. A reflection of the importance of the wool trade in this region in medieval times.
