Kent House station takes its name from Kent House farm nearby, which was historically the first house in Kent after crossing the border from Surrey. The station is on the line connecting Herne Hill and Beckenham Junction which was opened by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway in 1863, but Kent House station was not opened until 1884. Eurostars to and from the Channel Tunnel used to come through the station until the opening of St Pancras International in 2007. This is looking in the up direction towards London Victoria. The line passes under the Crystal Palace ridge after the next station, Penge East.
