One of the first batch of Manchester Metrolink trams, which went into public service in 1992. It was built by Firema in Italy, and has the rather strange sounding name "City of Drama". In 2009 delivery of a further 40 trams supplied by Bombardier commenced. These will provide much needed extra capacity, allow the Media City shuttle service to commence, and be used on the further extensions being built over the next few years. These are known as Phase 3a and when all the Bombardier trams are delivered, the fleet will total 72. This will be the largest fleet in the UK, with the possible exception of Blackpool, where a lot of the fleet are vintage vehicles, which are not used often or are withdrawn. If the Phase 3b extensions go ahead, Manchester will require even more vehicles.
