A detail of part of the handsome building (formerly White Lion Street School) run by the London Borough of Islington as a Key Stage 4 college and youth centre. This view is looking south across White Lion Street. The college takes its name from the New River, a seventeenth-century artificial 'river' which carried drinking water 20 miles from the River Lee and Amwell Springs in Hertfordshire to reservoirs in Islington. One of these reservoirs stands in nearby Claremont Square and is still in use by Thames Water.
