The original Wesleyan chapel dates back to 1825 but was demolished in 1900 and a "Central Mission Hall" was built in 1903 with seating for 2,200 then after a disastrous fire in 1996 the building has been completely renovated at a cost of £12m and fitted out with 75 apartments and shops.
